Lay the garment flat on a smooth surface. Measure in inches with a soft tape, keeping it level and without stretching the fabric unless the point says “stretched”.
Shirt
- Bust at armhole Measure straight across the chest from one armhole seam to the other.
- Hip regular Measure across the hip area of the shirt, keeping the tape level.
- Bottom width regular Measure across the bottom hem from side seam to side seam.
- Length from HPS Measure from the high point of the shoulder (next to the neck) straight down to the hem. Length follows the design.
- Shoulder seam to seam Measure across the back from one shoulder seam to the other.
- Armhole curve Measure along the curved armhole seam from the shoulder to the side seam.
- Sleeve length Measure from the shoulder seam down the outer sleeve to the cuff edge.
- Sleeve opening Measure across the open cuff / sleeve opening. Opening follows the design.
- Side slit below armhole Measure the side slit length from where the slit begins down toward the hem.
Trouser / Pant (narrow bottom)
- Waist relaxed With the waistband unstretched, measure across the waist and double if measuring only the front half, or measure the full circumference as listed.
- Waist stretched Gently stretch the elastic / waistband to its comfortable max and measure across (or full circumference as listed).
- Hip (4" above crotch) Measure across the hip about 4 inches above the crotch seam, keeping the tape level.
- Thigh (1" below crotch) Measure across the thigh about 1 inch below the crotch seam.
- Knee (13" below crotch) Measure across the leg about 13 inches below the crotch seam.
- Front rise (incl. waistband) Measure from the crotch seam up the front to the top of the waistband.
- Back rise (incl. waistband) Measure from the crotch seam up the back to the top of the waistband.
- Length outseam Measure from the top of the waistband down the outer side seam to the hem.
- Bottom hem height Measure the finished hem depth at the bottom opening.
- Bottom opening Measure across the open hem / ankle opening.
- Belt height Measure the height of the waistband / belt from top edge to bottom edge.
- Front belt plain Measure the plain / flat front portion of the waistband across the front.
